Heraklion Airport address

The Airport takes place almost in the center of the city, just 5 km. The exit is located on Makariou street. If you want to get to the city straightaway from the airport – use the west exit. To get from Heraklion to Chania or Hersonissos, Agios Nikolaos, and Sitia – go to the entrance on the east and then follow a west or an east direction accordingly.

Ikarou Avenue from Eleftherias Square will take you to the airport. You may also drive the main road towards Agios Nikolaos. Heraklion Airport address is 71601 Heraklion, Crete. If it’s more convenient for you to use GPS, follow these coordinates: 35.3396 breadth and 25.1747 longitudes.

There is a one-level passenger terminal, which consists of several parts:

  1. Domestic Arrivals Hall (in the east);
  2. Domestic Departures Hall (next to the first hall);
  3. Extra Schengen Departures Hall (in the middle of the airport);
  4. Intra Schengen Departures Hall (in the west).

Heraklion Airport Kasteli project

Currently, there is a huge overload with Heraklion Airport. To solve the problem, there has been started a commercial project for new airport construction since 2019. According to the plan, Kasteli Airport (40 km from Heraklion) will be ready for operation in 2025 and will include:

  • 8 levels;
  • 90 thousand sqm scale;
  • from 10 to 18 million passenger accommodation;
  • 19 boarding gates (with 8 units for Schengen and Non-Schengen flights).

This will be the second biggest airport in Greece after the State Airport of Heraklion “Nikos Kazantzakis”. The visitors will be able to reach the destination, which is within 25 minutes from the administrative centre of the country.

Thanks to this project, there will take place the first interconnection of North and South Crete with a contemporary drive network, enabling tourists to reach the Valley of Messara, Ierapetra, Kaloi Limenes, and Tympaki. The construction will be created according to eco-initiatives with an opportunity to self-produce and operate the energy, limiting CO2 emission.

Popular destinations from Heraklion Airport

There is a list of must-see destinations from the airport:

  • Heraklion Downtown – just 3 km from the site;
  • Chania, which is located 145 km from the airport (about 2 hours);
  • Malia – you will reach this place in half an hour;
  • Rethymno, which takes place 80 km (approximately 1 hour);
  • Hersonissos – available to reach just in 20 minutes;
  • To get from Heraklion to Agios Nikolaos, take a 50-min-drive;
  • Ammoudara – create a 15-min route to your destination;
  • Elounda – to get to the site, you will need 1 hour;
  • Agia Pelagia avaits you just in26 km from Heraklion Airport;
  • Matala – you can drive there in 70 minutes;
  • To visit Sitia – make a 2-hour-trip.
